Residential services
Respite Services provide short stays in a staffed setting — an evening, a weekend, a week, or a planned block across the year. Families use it for rest, for work, for a hospital stay, for another child’s wedding, or simply because everyone needs a break sometimes.
A good respite stay depends almost entirely on preparation. Before a first stay we complete an intake, gather medical and behavioural information, agree routines, and where possible arrange a short familiarisation visit. Arriving somewhere unfamiliar in the middle of a difficult week is how respite goes wrong.
Stays are not storage. People take part in activities, keep their routines where routines matter, and are supported by staff who have read their plan before they arrive. We send families a short summary of how the stay went.
We also hold limited capacity for emergency respite where a caregiver is hospitalised or a placement breaks down. Call us — if we cannot help we will say so quickly rather than leaving you waiting.
Book a regular schedule across the year, or call when something has gone wrong. Both are legitimate uses.
A short visit before an overnight wherever possible, so the first night is not also the first time.
We ask in detail how things are done at home and follow it, because consistency is what makes a stay go well.
Medical, dietary, behavioural and communication information is documented and read before arrival.
Activities and outings are planned for the stay, matched to the person’s interests.
A short written account of how the stay went — sleep, meals, mood, anything notable.
Questions
For planned stays, four to six weeks where you can — school holidays and long weekends fill first. Emergency requests are handled as capacity allows.
From a single overnight to a planned block of a few weeks. Longer arrangements are assessed individually and may be better served by another program.
Please do. We would much rather you saw the setting and met staff first, and we encourage a short familiarisation visit before a first overnight.
In most cases yes. We will confirm what your allocation covers before a stay is confirmed and provide the invoicing your administrator needs.
