Life Skills Training breaks everyday competence into steps a person can actually master, then teaches those steps where they belong: cooking in the kitchen, money at the till, transit on the route someone genuinely needs to travel.
We use task analysis and graduated prompting — starting with as much support as the person needs, then systematically withdrawing it. Every skill has a defined endpoint, so both the person and the staff know what finished looks like.
Curriculum areas cover food and cooking, household management, personal care and hygiene, money and budgeting, travel and transit, technology and phone use, personal safety, and self-advocacy. Which areas a person works on is their choice, guided by what will make the biggest practical difference.
Progress is recorded per step, so a person can see the ladder they are climbing rather than a vague sense of "getting better". Mastered skills get periodic maintenance checks, because skills fade without use.
Real kitchens, real stores, real bus routes. Skills transfer because there is nothing to transfer them from.
Task analysis turns "make dinner" into a sequence a person can succeed at today, then extend tomorrow.
Support is withdrawn systematically as competence grows, rather than left in place out of habit.
Step-level records mean a person can see exactly how far they have come.
Kitchen safety, road safety, personal safety and online safety are taught alongside the skills they attach to.
Periodic checks on mastered skills so hard-won capability does not quietly erode.
Questions
