Community services
Community Participation Services connect people to the ordinary life of their neighbourhood. That means the library, the gym, the community centre, a volunteer shift, a class, a faith community, a coffee shop where the staff know your order.
We begin by finding out what a person is actually interested in — which usually takes trying things rather than filling out a preference form. From there we build a weekly rhythm, arrange transportation, and provide the level of support the setting requires, from full accompaniment to a check-in at the end.
The measure of success is not attendance. It is whether relationships form, whether a person is missed when absent, and whether the support can eventually step back. We track fading support deliberately, because a program that never becomes less necessary has not succeeded.
We also do the unglamorous groundwork: talking to venue staff, arranging accessibility accommodations, and smoothing the first few visits so that a place becomes genuinely open rather than technically available.
A structured exploration period so that choices are made from experience rather than from a list.
Accompanied travel, plus travel training for people working towards using transit independently.
We plan from the start for how support reduces as a setting becomes familiar and relationships take hold.
Placements sourced and supported in partnership with local organisations across the GTA.
We prepare the setting as well as the person — accessibility, expectations, and a named contact on site.
One-to-one where that is what works, small groups where shared interest makes the experience better.
Questions
From a few hours to a full weekly schedule. Hours are set by funding and by what is genuinely useful — more is not automatically better.
Yes. We arrange accessible transportation and confirm accessibility at every venue before a first visit rather than on arrival.
Yes, and it often should be. We coordinate with other providers so schedules complement rather than collide.
We stop and try something else. Persisting with an activity a person dislikes teaches them that their preferences are not real.
