Developmental services
Developmental Support Services are for people who are working on something specific: expressing a need without distress, tolerating a change in routine, managing a morning independently, joining a group without leaving after ten minutes. The work is patient and incremental, and it is planned rather than improvised.
We start with an assessment of current functioning and, more importantly, a conversation about what the person actually wants to be able to do. Goals are written in plain language, broken into steps, and given a measure so that progress is observable rather than a matter of opinion.
Staff deliver the plan consistently across settings — at home, in the community, at a day program — because skills that only appear in one room have not really been learned. Data is collected on each goal, reviewed monthly by the coordinator, and reported to the person and their family quarterly.
Where a goal stalls, we change the approach rather than the person. Plans are revised in response to evidence, and we say so plainly when something is not working.
No jargon. A goal is written so the person, their family and a new staff member on their first shift all understand it the same way.
Each goal carries a baseline and a measure. Quarterly reports show movement — including where there has not been any.
The same strategies are used at home, in the community and at day programs, so learning generalises instead of evaporating.
Approaches drawn from established developmental and behavioural practice, applied by staff with ongoing supervision.
Plans begin with what a person already does well and extend from there, which is both kinder and more effective than starting from deficits.
Families are taught the same strategies staff use, so support does not stop at the front door.
Questions
Yes. Developmental Support Services are available to people living at home with family, in another provider’s residence, or independently.
The coordinator reviews data monthly. Formal reviews with the person and their family are quarterly, and any goal can be revised sooner if the evidence says it should be.
Yes. We can invoice Passport directly and will provide the documentation your funding administrator requires.
We will tell you before you have to ask. Stalled goals get a documented review, a changed approach, and if needed a referral to clinical support.
